The time it takes to upload or download a very large file depends on the type of connection you have to the Internet. Here are some formulas you can use to make a rough estimate.
- DSL/ADSL — upload 2 MB per minute; download 10 MB per minute
- standard cable internet (1.5 Mb/s system) — upload 2 MB per minute; download 10 MB per minute
- high speed cable internet (3.0 Mb/s system) — upload 4 MB per minute; download 20 MB per minute
Note: Internet connections can vary greatly. These estimates assume an 85% efficient connection, which is about average. Also, if you have a Free File Transfer Account, we may borrow some of your upload and download time to share with other account holders, particularly if you are a high volume user, which will increase your upload time.
