Because of bandwidth issues in the early days of the Internet, web browsers used to have limitations on the amount of data that could be transferred. Files bigger than 2 GB were a problem since 2 GB was the common maximum for uploads and downloads. This is no longer the case. These days, most browsers are much more generous with bandwidth.
Depending on the browser you use, there may be upload limitations over 4 GB, but download limitations are much higher. For example, Internet Explorer 11, the most current version as of this writing, has an upload limit of 4 GB and a download limit of 17,592 GB (17 TB).
File size limitations within your browser should not be an issue when using SendThisFile to download (receive) files. However, if you are uploading (sending) files larger than 4 GB, you may need to reduce the file size, depending on the browser. Here are a few ways to do that:
- Change the format or resolution of files. For example, with image files, videos or audio files, use editing software to reduce the file size.
- Use compression software. The functionality to create compressed zip files is built-in to many of today’s operating systems. Creating a zip file with numerous files also allows you to attach one file, rather than several, and to retain folder structure, if desired.
